7 from 7: Stories for your (rainy) Monday afternoon

Good afternoon, and happy Monday to you all. How about these amazing low temperatures in July? Is everybody happy?

In other news, here are some stories of interest for you to peruse this afternoon:

1. An actress and former Playboy playmate was appointed Monday to join the panel of the ABC weekday talk show. Barbara Walters, who created "The View" in 1997 and has since served as a co-host, made the announcement on the air. Read here to find out who they chose and more details. We'll tell you more on East Texas News at 5.

2. A motorcycle racer trying to top 300 mph died Sunday after losing control and zooming off a runway at a former air base in northern Maine. He was going 285mph. Details and pics here.

3. A record high temperature was tied yesterday in Tyler. But this record was for the coolest high on that date, 81 degrees. What's next? Join Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto live at 4, 5 and 6 for the latest.

4. The baby tigers that just arrived at Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge are turning heads everywhere. Not just because they are adorable but also due to their unique stripes. Tiger Creek is a rescue facility just north of Tyler and is home to over 37 tigers and other big cats.

5. Something new that may prevent Alzheimer's Disease? We're all interested in that; however, it may not be something many folks are interested in doing: delaying retirement. Dr. Ed Dominguez will join us at 5 to discuss.

6. Texas A&M quarterback and Tyler native Johnny Manziel pleaded guilty on Monday to a misdemeanor failure to identify charge that stemmed from a 2012 incident in College Station. More details here.

7. With Governor Perry's announcement last week that he won't be seeking a fourth term as Texas governor, State Attorney General Greg Abbott is considered by many around the state to be the gubernatorial front-runner. And Abbott is no stranger to the statewide stage. He's the longest serving attorney general of Texas. Check out his story and video here.
