TIP: Burglars love air conditioners

Posted: Updated:
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

You love your window air conditioning unit, it keeps cool when it's very hot out. But UC police want you to know that burglars love window air conditioning units too.

Why? Well they are usually held in with nothing more than a flimsy piece of plastic, making it simple to just push the unit into the house.

If you use a window A/C unit, make sure it is securely mounted to prevent this type of attack.

One approach is to use screws or a lock to prevent the window from being opened further.

Most air conditioners have a top trim piece that requires the window be opened slightly to let the unit slip through.

Another is to install a security bar across the top and bottom of the air conditioner on the outside of the unit.
