Child recovering after being hit by car in Bellevue

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Emma Bradshaw, 9, is urging other children to look both ways before they cross a street.

Three weeks ago, Emma was hit by a car near the corner of Old Hickory Boulevard and Sonya Drive in Bellevue.

She doesn't remember very much about the accident.  Family members say she was hit while walking home from the store.

In the weeks since the accident, Emma has made so much progress that doctors released her from Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Emma remains focused on learning to walk again. She is in a wheelchair, and wears a five-pound brace called a halo.

"It's really heavy," Emma said about the brace.

Emma also has a feeding tube but she is still able to eat ice cream.

"I love the ice cream. Especially coffee ice cream," she said.

Emma's mother, Sonya Bradshaw, has been by her side since the accident.

She once feared that she may never share a special moment with her daughter again.

"The officer at the hospital said, 'She's still breathing. She's still with us,' so that was very surreal just to hear that," Bradshaw said.
