Youth wheelchair basketball gains interest in Jackson

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A new avenue of basketball might soon be opening up to youth in the Jackson area.

That is wheelchair basketball.

Saturday at Jackson State kids got a chance to take part in an instructional clinic led by Antonio Wright of Metro Area Community Empowerment.

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association is looking for kids in the Jackson area to start up a prep and varsity wheelchair basketball team this fall.

It's a chance for kids with lower limb disabilities to get involved with competitive sports.

"It's introducing them to a new world of sports that they might not otherwise have known was out there," said even coordinator Dave Elliston.
