7 from 7: Stories for your Friday afternoon

It's Friday! We made it to the weekend, friends. We hope you have a great one planned.

Check out these stories to help get you through your final few hours of the workday:

1. A jury began deliberating George Zimmerman's fate Friday after hearing dueling portraits of the neighborhood watch captain: a wannabe cop who took the law into his own hands or a well-meaning volunteer who shot Trayvon Martin because he feared for his life.

2. A 64-year-old woman who lived and worked in Longview has been sentenced to federal prison. Jo Beth Westergard was employed as a bookkeeper for Pizza Hut of East Texas for 12 years and had access to the company's computers and banking information; she was accused of and pleaded guilty today to wire fraud and sentenced to 24 months in federal prison. Westergard was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $425,323.45 to Pizza Hut of East Texas.

3. It is HOT in East Texas, no doubt, but that won't stop anyone  in our neck of the woods from having some weekend fun. We've made a list for you to help you find out what's available for you to do July 11 through July 14.

4. The Tyler Fire and Police Departments paid a special visit to the campers of the Boys and Girls Club today. an appreciation luncheon was held for the police officers and firefighters to interact with the kids. After some food and dancing, the kids were taken outside to explore the police vehicles and the fire truck. We'll show you the fun tonight on East Texas News at 6.

5. Police in Lancaster, Pennsylvania are crediting two teenage boys on bikes with saving a 5-year-old girl from being kidnapped. Now the search is on for the person who took her. We'll tell you their story tonight at 5.

6. Tonight at 5 we'll visit with Gayle Helms from Pets Fur People with this week's pet of the week, and Les Ellsworth from the Potpourri House in Tyler will be here on In the Kitchen to share his restaurant's famous pimiento cheese recipe! Don't miss either of those fun segments.

7. It's an odd modern trend, as city dwellers have taken to raising chickens in their backyards across the country. But it doesn't come without a downside. Often, the fowl end up in animal shelters when their owners become tired of the expense, smell and noise. Here's what you need to know, complete with video.
