Five acre fire burning in Smith County

Posted: Updated:
SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A brush fire in Smith County has now consumed five acres and is at zero percent containment.

Chapel Hill Volunteer Fire Department, along with several other local departments, are in Smith County to fight a brush fire off of County Road 235.

Around 2:20 p.m., firefighters were trying to prevent the blaze from crossing CR 235. High winds, that continue shifting direction, are making the fire difficult to contain.

CR 235 is located between Highway 31 and Highway 64 east of Tyler.

No injuries have been reported at this time and no homes are currently threatened.

It is unknown how the fire started. More details will be added as we receive them.
