DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) -

The Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps is the major league of marching bands.

The best of the best, students from all across the country are chosen to compete on a national level in hopes of winning a world championship.

This is a select group of exceptionally talented percussion and brass musicians training to share their craft on a national level.

Founder and executive director of Genesis, Chris Magonigal says, "There's only 42 drum corps across the county and there's only 60 worldwide and we are very much competing for a world championship."

150 kids are hand-picked from all across the state of Texas and beyond for a spot on the team based on their musical skill and athleticism.

"What we do within our musical repertoire is very difficult and a lot of these kids it's probably some of the toughest things they've every had to play," said Magonigal.

"It definitely is a level of no other," said Kevin Torres, 18, of Corpus Christi.

Torres who is a 4 year bass drum play and Genesis veteran says it's basically a huge family playing music and sweating together.

"It's really shaped me as a musician and taught me definitely more advanced things I wouldn't learn anywhere else  you know not just how to play but how to listen," said Torres.

But music isn't the only thing Torres takes away from this experience.

"That's what it's really taught me how to be a good person, how to better myself everyday and how to not settle with my life," said Torres.

During the summer, the group works on their routine 24/7 perfecting every aspect before competition and they have fun doing it.

Micah Gause, 20, of San Antonio says, "I'm in color guard, so we spin, we dance, different pieces of equipment, different styles of dancing and we do it together and we have fun."

And this year's show, "Mosaic", .is all about the Wizard of Oz.

"Our show is so cool. We're just finding so many different things in every part of the show that we love about it and we're just really excited to have people get out of their seats and really enjoy what we're doing," said Gause.

The group will be performing their routine for the first time, free-to-the public this Friday, July 5, 2013.

The show starts at 7:00 PM at Lumberjack Stadium in Diboll.
