Longview Police Department is offering free safety courses for women that include a handgun safety class, and a hands-on day at the department's shooting range.
Free safety courses for women 18 and older are being offered during July and August. The courses will take place over multiple days and will cover topics including women's safety, workplace violence, and handgun safety.
A firearms-simulator shooting course and a hands-on day at the Longview Police Department's firing range will be included as part of each safety course.
The handgun safety course is designed for women with various levels of firearm experience, from those who may have never fired a gun to those who just wish to refresh their skills.
The July course will begin July 8 and the August course will begin August 19.
