FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

This Fourth of July, the Flint Public Art Project will be unveiling Silo Swing, a six-story kinetic light installation by New York-based artist Chris Jordan.

The swing incorporates two concrete silos at Spring Grove, a restored wetland and open space just a few blocks from downtown Flint. The event is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Silo Swing invites visitors to ride a swing at ground level while connected to a reflective, wind-catching materials above that create a light display on the silos during the day and at night.

"We're excited to bring these artists and installations to our neighborhood and the city of Flint," said Alycia Socia, president of the Grand Traverse District Neighborhood Association, which collaborated with the Flint Public Art Project. "We've worked really hard to restore the unique urban wetlands at Spring Grove, and we're thrilled to see the possibilities for the long-term use of the silos."

"The temporary installations on the concrete silos will show just a few of the creative, beautiful ways that Flint's abandoned structures can be re-used, said FPAP director of programs Jerome Chou.

The July 4 event will feature a community potluck dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., performances from local bands and tours of the Spring Grove site. Visitors will also be able to view the city of Flint's annual fireworks at sunset.
