Suspect still at large in Amber Alert case

A toddler is safe after the car she was riding in was stolen while she was sleeping inside.

An Amber Alert was issued after the car theft Sunday night on Mobberly Avenue in Longview.

Kaylynn Howard-Dudley was the four-year-old who was left in her mother's car.

Kaylynn's mother parked her car in front of Cowboy's Quick Stop in Longview. She left her car unlocked and running, with the toddler inside.

It was while she in the gas station that the suspect stole the car.

Longview police found the vehicle at approximately 12:30 a.m. Monday morning.

"We did put out an Amber Alert and right about the time we put out the Amber Alert, we were actually able to locate the vehicle at an apartment complex parking lot not too far away. The child was unharmed and actually still asleep in the vehicle." said Kristie Brian, Public Information Officer for Longview Police.

Longview Police are now looking for the suspect whom they have a photo of.

"The suspect is described as a thick build black male with a white t-shirt, with some sort of insignia on the left chest area as well as the back. It may be a Papa John's logo. He is was shorts and the white air force Nike shoes as well," said Brian.

Longview officials stress the importance of not leaving children unattended.

"We want to encourage everyone that if you have a child in the vehicle no matter day or night, it's never okay to leave your child in the car, just running to store. This time the child ended up unharmed, but unfortunately that's not what always happens," said Brian.

If you have any information on this crime, you're asked to contact Longview Police or Gregg County Crimestoppers at (903) 236-7867.
