When the name Chamblee is mentioned around Tyler, people think of Tyler roses.
But before Roland Chamblee helped pioneer the East Texas Rose Industry, he was an airman in World War Two. Chamblee joined the Air Corps (later named Air Force) in 1943 and was assigned to Air Escort Command. He arrived in Naples, Italy just as the huge battle for the city was ending and was later stationed in the Middle East.
After the war, Chamblee married Sarah Kelley. Both were from rose-growing families, so in 1950 they went into rose growing, and Chamblee helped pioneer the Tyler Rose Industry into the important industry it became.
