According to Facebook and a sign on a door, landmark Tyler restaurant Gilbert's El Charro has closed its doors.
Both locations of the establishment are now closed.
Initially, El Charro had a sign on the door that said the restaurant was closed for repairs and remodeling. However, a post today on Facebook said, "After
69.5 years and 3 days El Charro is officially closed. Thanks to all of
East Texas for dining with us throughout the years."
A call to Gus Ramirez, whose family has owned the restaurant for decades, did not shed any light on why the doors have closed after all these years.
