Longview ties high temperature record Friday

Today is the hottest day of the year... so far

Longview, Texas, reached 105° this afternoon which TIED their high temperature record for this day. The old record for Longview was 105° set back in 1918. The other reporting stations of Tyler and Lufkin (official NWS reporting stations), did NOT set records, but at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, it did climb up to 104°.

104° was just a single degree away from tying an all-time high temperature for the month of June. Now this is certainly HOT, but it has been set several times. The latest was 2011 in which it was set twice, on the 18th and 19th. It was also set in 1925, three times and again in 1930 and 1917.

Lufkin's record for this date is SAFE. The record for Lufkin is 104° set back in 1918. Today's high temperature was 98°. It MAY climb a bit higher within the next hour or so.

Tomorrow...much cooler! Cold front moving through East Texas this evening and throughout the day tomorrow. Highs tomorrow, middle 90s.
