SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police are investigating a stabbing that left one man suffering life-threatening injuries Thursday night.

"Crime is pretty much normal on this street," said a resident in the 400 block of Abilene Street.

That's where police responded to a home around 10 o'clock Thursday night. The stabbing was reportedly the result of an argument between a man and a woman there.

52 year old Bernard Wright was sent to the hospital with what was described at the time as life threatening injuries. He has since been upgraded to fair condition.

Police have charged Tamika Washington with attempted murder.

Neighbors weren't surprised over the violence, but they would like to see a change on Abilene Street. Fearing for their own safety neighbors asked to not be identified.

"Crime is pretty much normal on this street and I know that's an awful thing to say," said an unidentified woman.

Police say after a physical dispute Washington stabbed Wright several times in his upper body.

Investigators say the scene on the inside of the home indicates there was a very violent struggle there.

Police haven't said if Washington was taking drugs, however investigators did say they couldn't interview her at the scene because she appeared to be impaired.

According to neighbors substance abuse is prolific, and accounts for much of the violence that plays out on Abilene Street.

There is little information just yet about the relationship between the man and Washington.
