A Pittsburg man has been nominated as a finalist for a contest called "The Best Dad on Wheels." A motorcycle accident left 41 year old Jason Hammonds paralyzed from the chest down 5 years ago.
"The doctors said that I wouldn't walk again," Jason says.
But Jason has never used it as an excuse to stop being a good father.
"I didn't let it stop me. We all have our bad days we all have our good days I just really try to focus on the good days," says Hammonds.
Nominated by his oldest son, Jason is a finalist in the Christopher and Dana Reeve foundation contest "Best Dad on Wheels."
"They broke the news to me on fathers day and I tell you I was overwhelmed," he says.
"I'm very proud of him , he's always there for me when I need him for anything," says son Ty Hammonds.
He never misses time with his children, even coaching his daughters softball team.
"He's always hopeful. He coaches my softball team, take me to the movies," says daughter Abby Hammonds.
"He has tons of energy. He doesn't let anything stop him , he go go goes," says fiancee Jennifer Massey.
He texts his children every morning how proud he is of them.
"I always tell them that I love them, and I want them to know that I care. I've encourage them to be the best they could whether it be sports be it academics," Jason says.
For Jason, life is good.
"It means the world to me that my kids feel this way," he says.
