Phoenix teen accused of fatally shooting bicyclist

PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

A teenager is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a bicyclist in northwest Phoenix in June, authorities said.

Phoenix police said Monday that the 17-year-old boy is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and misconduct involving a weapon

Phoenix police Officer James Holmes said 51-year-old Arnold Hamel was riding near 17th Avenue and Hatcher Road about 2:45 a.m. Thursday when a white pickup truck slowly drove by.

A man fired multiple shots from inside the truck, hitting the bicyclist.

He was taken to a Phoenix hospital where he died.

Investigators say the teen and Hamel had some sort of brief argument before the shooting

    An East Texas boy scout has achieved his goal of raising enough money to purchase 31 bullet proof vests in 31 days. 13 year old Jaxon Holland was raising the funds for his Eagle Scout project and surpassed his goal. Holland raised $18,000 which will cover 34 vests plus accessories. The vests will be donated to the Wood County Sheriff’s office.
