People headed out of town in anticipation of high temps

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

With record temperatures expected this weekend, many people in the Valley of the Sun were gassing up and grabbing grub on their way out of town and into the cooler high country.

About a dozen hotels in Flagstaff, Payson, and Sedona reported they were sold out or would be soon.

"I'm getting married," said Julie Robinson, whose ceremony will be in Sedona this weekend.

"It's going to be unseasonably warm, 108, but it's better than 118," Robinson said.

She has a few tricks up her sleeve to keep her guests cool.

"We bought air conditioners, actually, to take up to the resort," she said.

CBS 5 News found not one but two brides tying the knot up north this weekend.

"I'm getting married in Prescott," said Courtney Snow.

And Snow also has a plan for keeping everyone comfortable.

"Bottled water, misty sprayers, and my fiance told me not to print a program for the wedding, but I went and printed one on super stiff paper so they can fan themselves," Snow said.

"It's supposed  to be 117 Friday, so it's time to get out of there," said Jenny Shippy.

She has the right idea - she's sending the kids to their grandparents' home in Chino Valley.

If you can't get a room in Flagstaff this weekend, the visitor's center wants to remind everyone there are fun ways to spend a day up there, but keep fire restrictions in mind if you're camping.

In the Valley, temperatures will be close to record-breaking highs with 117 degrees on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Even parts of the high country will be under an excessive heat warning this weekend. There is not a warning in Flagstaff, but temperatures will still be well above average with highs in the low 90s.
