County Raises Taxes For The First Time In 13 Years

After a vote of 4-to-1 Gregg county commissioners have raised taxes for the first time in 13 years.

The previous rate for Gregg county was 23 1/2 cents per 100 valuation. The 4 cent hike raises the rate to 28 cents. Gregg county Judge Bill Stoudt says higher costs in utilities, fuel and jail operations forced the increase.

The county still has one of the lowest tax rates in the state.
