PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Four more people have been rescued from the Arizona desert by Maricopa County sheriff's deputies.

One man called for help Monday night and three more were rescued on Tuesday near Gila Bend.

The total number of people rescued from the desert in the past few weeks now stands at 28.

On June 3, sheriff's deputies rescued six men lost and wandering in the desert. On June 8, another 18 were rescued after suffering heat-related illnesses associated with days-long desert crossings.

Five bodies have been recovered from the desert near Gila Bend  in the past week, MCSO said.

"Warning after warning is being ignored," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio. "Temperatures are now expected to be 116 or 117 this weekend. I am afraid the next group may not be able to call for help."

All the people rescued, including the latest four, have been handed over to the Border Patrol.
