Two East Texans qualify for Pan Am Junior Championship

Two East Texans will represent the United States in the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championship in Medellin, Columbia.

John Tyler's Andre Jefferson and Harmony's Daven Murphree have each won first place at the U.S.A. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Despite heavy winds, Jefferson won first place in the junior men's long jump at 7.36m/24-1 3/4.

The John Tyler grad won the 4A Texas state title earlier this year.

Murphree also a Texas state champion, cleared 5.10m/16-8.75 on his first attempt to take gold in the pole vault.

Winning the U.S.A. Outdoor championship has earned Jefferson and Murphree spots on Team U.S.A. The Pan Am Junior Championship is August 23-25.
