Statement from former Chatham County Chairman
Pete Liakakis on the Paula Deen controversy:
I was one of her customers. When she started
making sandwiches, her two sons would deliver them. They would com to my business.
I have known her for a number or years and I
know she has helped a number of people. She has brought a lot of recognition to
Somebody else will pick her up because you
can see she now has food items that have her name on it. There are a lot of
other things that she is still on, other national shows.
I think she is a good person. She is an
individual that helps a lot of people.
I think a lot of people that come to Savannah
have heard about it. Some come because of her but you have got a lot of other
people that come in because they have heard so much about Savannah. Last year
we had over 12 million tourists and they spent over $2 billion.
She will continue to make contributions and
hopefully whatever has occurred that might have caused this will be straightened
