East Texas Pet owners giving pets their own vacation at luxury pet resorts

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Many East Texans will be taking some vacation time in the next couple of months.

Some vacationers will be faced with the dilemma of what to do with their pets.

Many might worry about what to do with their four legged companions.

Some might feel guilty about leaving their pets behind, but thanks to luxury pet hotels like the one at the Lone Star Veterinarian Clinic in Lufkin, some pets can have their own vacation.

"These pets are our babies so they get great accommodations while we're gone doing something for ourselves," said dog owner Marty Harris.

Besides the flat screen televisions and dog sized beds, the rooms also provide relief from the brutal East Texas heat.

"People prefer to put pets in here because it's more like home," said Veterinary Technician Lize Sandoval.

For Harris and her dog Kelsey, relief from the heat is also a health issue.

"She's 13 and diabetic so she cannot be in the heat like that. By having her indoors, I'm not worried about her ailments," said Harris.

The rooms do come with a steeper price tag, costing twice as much as a regular kennel, but to Harris the experience is priceless.

If the Elvis doesn't meet .your standards, then maybe one of the seven other luxury rooms will.

From a glamour room to a Houston Astros room, to even an Aggie room, the clinic wanted to cover all ranges of personalities.

"We wanted to please everyone," said Sandoval.

If you're a pet owner, you know our furry friends each have a unique personality.

The resort doesn't just cater to dogs. They also have a cat room.

According to Sandoval, the most popular room at the resort is the glamour room, because it allows dogs to see the incoming foot traffic.
