Texas youth gathering at Lufkin Expo Center for Brahman show


Kids from across Texas are converging on the George H. Henderson Jr. Expo Center gearing up for the Texas Junior Brahman Association (TJBA) state show.

133 youth, ages 8 to 18 and 333 head of cattle will participate in various events over the next 3 days including: public speaking, livestock judging, showmanship and sales talk.

Many of the kids got into showing Brahman as part of a family tradition.

Haley  Herzog, 17, from Robinson, TX said, "My parents showed Brahman cattle so it's just kind of run down in the family so it's kind of like a family tradition just every summer we come here."

TJBA president, Jacob Valenta, 18, from Alleyton, TX said, "Really it's just a chance for everyone in the state to come together put on a Brahman show and it's great for everyone that's a starting beginner to the most experienced showman just to come out and have fun."

The TJBA show is free for all spectators and runs all day Friday through Sunday.

Here's a general schedule of events:

Friday, June 21:

7 AM - Fairgrounds open for cattle arrival

8 AM - Registration check-in

9 AM - Public Speaking, Lufkin Convention Center

1:30 PM - Livestock Judging


Saturday, June 22:

8AM - Showmanship Contest, Arena/Peewee Showmanship, Calcutta Showmanship

1:30 PM - Sales Talk

4 PM - Heardsman Quiz

6 PM - TJBA Scholarship Interviews


Sunday, June 23

8 AM - Bull Judging/Female Judging/Pictures

7 PM - TJBA awards banquet/presentation of awards/crowning of queen and princess
