Former Tyler Lee Red Raider Brett Pirtle is enjoying his moment on the national stage at the College World Series. It wasn't an easy road to Omaha. One year ago he was playing at Panola Junior College. Now Pirtle is the starting second baseman for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
"It's been a journey to get where I am starting in high school to going to JUCO, to wanting to go division one and wanting to go to the SEC," said Pirtle. "Going here I knew we had a chance to do something special and that's why I picked Mississippi State."
Just three wins away from a national championship, Pirtle is receiving plenty of love from East Texas.
"I'm getting a lot of texts," he said. "It's awesome that they're all watching. That's where I grew up. I love Tyler, Texas."
Pirtle and the Bulldogs are 2 and 0 in World Series pool play. They play again Friday afternoon at two.
