Pike Road resident a finalist to be recognized at MLB All Star Game's Tribute for Heroes

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Pike Road resident Brian Hicks could be among those recognized at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game® as part of its Tribute for Heroes event, if the votes put him over the top.

Hicks is one of the three finalists for the Atlanta Braves team.

Hicks suffered from injuries sustained in a hunting accident in 1998 and during deployment in Iraq in 2003. The injury in Iraq forced doctors to amputate his left leg.

The injuries haven't slowed down the soldier, though. He's completed 35 triathlons and eight marathons.

In 2012, Hicks was awarded the USA Triathlon Comeback of the Year Award.

When he isn't competing or working as resident engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers at Maxwell AFB, he mentors other disabled veterans through the Birmingham, Ala.-based Lakeshore Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project in Jacksonville, Fla., and CAST (Christian Amputee Support Team) ministries based in Opelika, Ala.

Finalist voting continues until June 30 and can be done by visiting this site and clicking the Atlanta Braves logo at this link:

Only one finalist from each team will be chosen to attend and be recognized at the 2013 MLB® All-Star Game® in New York on July 16. One of those will also be featured in PEOPLE magazine.

You can vote as many times as you like.
