Man arrested with $795,000 laundered cash after traffic stop

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

On June 11, 2013, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a vehicle on Interstate 20 in Smith County near Tyler for a traffic violation.   

According to DPS, the driver, identified as 68-year old Glenn Richards of Sunrise, Florida, was arrested and booked into the Smith County Jail on charges of money laundering after a search of his vehicle led to the discovery of multiple bundles of U.S. currency totaling $795,506.00.

The charge of money laundering over $200,000, first-degree felony, is punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison, as well as a possible fine up to $10,000.

This is an ongoing investigation.
