Texarkana Police officer injured in hit and run identified

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

A Texarkana, TX police officer is in serious condition today, the victim of a hit and run whole on duty early this morning. Now, the search is on for the driver of the vehicle that him.

According to TTPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Steve Shelley, Officer William Sprague was responding to a disturbance at Grady T. Wallace Park around 12:45 a.m. When police arrived, several cars started to leave.  That's when Sprague, who was already out of his patrol car, was hit by a vehicle. 

No arrest has been made.

Police say the vehicle that hit Officer Sprague was possibly a newer model, silver SUV. They are still interviewing witnesses to get a better description of the vehicle. 

He was taken to Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana with injuries to his upper body and head.
