East Texas Disaster Team Leaves For Florida

An East Texas disaster relief team is headed to Florida to help possible victims of a second hurricane. They had just returned from Florida , but with another hurricane bearing down on that state, the East Texas relief team, part of the southern baptist convention, is headed back.

They run rolling kitchens they plan to serve thousands of hot meals from... And provide shower areas for people who may have no where to go.

"We had a person tell us down in Florida when we we're there that was a Tuesday, and he said this is the first hot meal I've had Friday , and he was thankful to have a hot meal" says volunteer Jerry Don Jones.

Many are taking time off of their jobs to help... And over the years they've helped victims of tornado's, floods, ice storms.. And even served meals to relief workers at ground zero. They do it based on biblical principle... A passage from the book of Matthew.

"I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me drink, i was in prison and you visited me and if you did it unto the least of these you've done it unto me, and that's our motivation to go and do this" says team member Mike Britain.

They deliver a message of hope that disaster victims are not forgotten. The team will be part of over 150 Texans who will stage in Perry Georgia tomorrow, before being deployed to Florida. Bob Hallmark reporting.
