Elephant Race Kicks Off Shrine Circus In Tyler

Olympic athletes dream of taking home the gold, but two contestants in a race on Friday in Tyler would prefer to walk away with only peanuts.
Friday, the Sharon Shrine Center held an elephant race to kick off the 2004 East Texas Shrine Circus in Tyler.
The winner: Dutchess and Spiderman. Elephants and camel rides are available plus multiple rings of circus fun all this weekend.
The event will be held at the Sharon Shrine Center on 10027 State Highway 31 East out of Tyler. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Tickets are available at the door. They are $8 for children and $10 for adults.
