Hundreds of East Texas children will eat free nutritious meals this summer thanks to the East Texas Food Bank.
The East Texas Food Bank's Summer Food Program kicked off on Tuesday and will serve children at nearly 60 locations throughout the summer.
The free meals are available to children ages one to 18. To participate all you have to do is show up; no proof of insurance is required.
"It's really big for us to know that we can do something. You know, there's almost 74,000 children that are at risk of hunger here in East Texas. We are doing 60 sites this year, 140,000 meals if everything goes well with all of the sites. It's a small part of meeting that need," said Dennis Cullinane, Executive Director of the East Texas Food Bank.
