A Henderson man pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in federal court on Tuesday. 42-year-old James Brent Malone, a former Henderson High School language arts teacher, had been in custody in East Texas since January.
Henderson ISD placed Malone on paid administrative leave following the accusations.
According to official findings, law enforcement officers seized a laptop and DVDs from Malone's home on County Road 426A in Henderson. They submitted that digital media for forensic analysis.
Court documents filed on Tuesday revealed that Malone admitted to possessing 1,275 photos and 40 videos containing child pornography. Malone said the majority of the images depicted boys ranging in age from 12-15 years old engaging in sexually explicit conduct. However, Malone said he also possessed images of boys as young as four years old. Malone went on to say that 23 of the images depicted children who were bound while in engaging in explicit conduct.
Henderson ISD confirms Malone is no longer employed by the district.
Judge Judith Guthrie has referred the case to Federal Judge Leonard Davis and recommends Davis accept Malone's plea of guilty. Judge Davis will sentence Malone.
In a plea bargain, Malone pleaded guilty to one count of possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors. Malone now faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
