Tyler police hope two articles in surveillance video will help public identify robber

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler Police released surveillance video Monday showing a hold-up at a Tyler business on Saturday night. The video shows a shotgun wielding robber holding clerks at Dollar General at gunpoint, demanding cash.

Tyler police said the man entered the store at approximately 10:30 P.M. Saturday, armed with a black pistol grip shotgun and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus mask, one usually used by firefighters. The man then approached the cash register, where customers were still checking out, and pointed the shotgun in the face of the female clerk .She threw her hands up and called her manager over to the register, who was able to open it and give money to the robber.

Authorities said they believe the man is Hispanic with brown hair, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, and weighs about 145 pounds. The robber may have taken off on foot or in a blue four-door Toyota.

"We have great video and still pictures of him so we're hoping somebody will recognize him," said Tyler Police Public Information Officer Don Martin. "He used a shotgun. Maybe somebody knows someone that has that type of gun."

Martin said another possible identifier is the mask.

"Hopefully someone will say, ‘I know someone that's got one of those in the closet,'" he said. "I do understand that they are extremely expensive, so that may be something that was stolen, came up missing, or was purchased at an auction."

Police are hoping those two unique articles could be keys to take the robber off the street.
