SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man involved in a shooting Saturday afternoon  has turned himself into the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

Joshua Pettigrew is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest.

This shooting happened around 11 a.m. on Saturday off of County Road 129 in Smith County.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office said 49-year-old Tina Allen of Tyler is in jail, accused of shooting her boyfriend.

Lieutenant CID Bill Goecking with the Smith County Sheriff's Office said Allen shot him in the shoulder after an argument.

Goecking said Pettigrew became involved as Allen's boyfriend waited for an ambulance.

"Another male subject (Pettigrew) arrived, contacted the woman, obtained the gun from her and then re-attacked the victim. The victim stood up and there was a struggle. The gun went off again, but he was not struck; he was only shot one time. At which time the units from the Smith County Sheriff's Office arrived. The subject  ran into the woods," Lieutenant Goecking said.

Hours later, officials said Pettigrew turned himself in. The victim is being treated for a gunshot wound at a local hospital.
