TISD: Writing not allowed on graduation caps

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

KLTV has received multiple phone calls and emails complaining that Robert E. Lee High School and John Tyler High School seniors will not be allowed to wear graduation caps that have writing on them and that students were just notified of this decision today. The reports also said that students who had writing on their graduation caps would have to pay $15 for a new cap in order to participate in the ceremony.

According to Dawn Parnell, a spokesperson for Tyler Independent School District, it was decided by principals at both high schools and district officials that writing on graduation caps would not be permitted. Parnell says that inappropriate things are sometimes written on the caps, so the district decided not to allow the practice. Parnell also stated that students have been told multiple times throughout the year about the new rule.
