'Definitive book' on New London school disaster released

Posted: Updated:

After 25 years of research, an author has published the definitive book on the worst school disaster in American history.

David. M. Brown was at Kilgore College today to sign copies of his book, Gone at 3:17, the story of the 1937 New London school explosion.

Brown did countless interviews with surviving students, teachers, and rescue workers to preserved the eyewitness accounts of the tragedy.

"I hope there's 10 more books written on it, I don't think we can talk about it enough. To keep this memory alive and certainly as a memorial, too, to those who were lost that day," Brown said.

Brown, who co-authored the book with Michael Wereschagin, will be visiting libraries in East Texas over the next two weeks to sign copies of the book.
