TUSCALOOSA, AL (WSFA) -

Several news organizations including the Tuscaloosa News are reporting that University of Alabama basketball player Devonta Pollard is among three new arrests in connection to the April 30, 2013 kidnapping of a Mississippi child that sparked an Amber Alert.

The Tuscaloosa News report cites Mississippi officials as confirming Pollard, along with Joyce Johnigan and a third unnamed person as having been taken into custody Tuesday at which time they were charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Six people are now charged in the case, including Pollard's mother, Jesse Mae Pollard.

The child at the center of the case, 6-year-old Jashayla Hopson, was taken from a Kemper County, Mississippi elementary school.

The child was later found after being abandoned by the suspects when she was told to get out of the car and wait for her mother.

Pollard, a Mississippi native, is listed as a sophomore at the University of Alabama where he is a Forward on the Crimson Tide's basketball team.

He was a five-star prospect according to Rivals.com and ranked as the seventh best small forward in his class and the 22nd best prospect in the nation by the organization. He led his high school team to the 3A State Championship with an average of 23.8 points.

WSFA 12 News is working to gather reaction from the University of Alabama at this time.
