Alleged Gang Leader Arrested In Houston

A man police say is responsible for a murder-for-hire plot in East Texas as the leader of a gang, is now in custody. Just after 5 p.m. Wednesday evening, U.S. Marshals arrested 28-year-old Jamarcus Warren at an apartment complex in Houston.

Warren is accused of hiring someone to kill Shawn Pickens in Smith County last January. Authorities say he is also linked to a December murder in Gregg County. Through an investigation, the US Marshal Service was able to find him in Houston.

"He did attempt to run," said Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham. "He looked one direction there was a U.S. Marshall there. He looked the other direction there was another Marshal, and he finally just laid down on the ground and was taken into custody."

Warren will be brought back to Smith County from Houston.

District Attorney Bingham said he'll seek the death penalty in the case.
