her 4-year-old grandson.
Crime scene tape quarantines off a home on Dorr Creek Street
where 52-year-old Gina Langley and her 4-year-old grandson, Dane Shaw, died Sunday morning after a fiery inferno engulfed their home.
Fire investigators worked all day Sunday at the home to try and determine the exact cause of the fire.
Fire Marshal, Del Birdwell says Nacogdoches Fire received a
call about a structure fire just before 7:00 AM.
"First arriving units arrived on scene at this structure to
find heavy fire showing," said Birdwell. "It had already vented through the roof. Fire crews
made entry at which point they found 2 victims. One adult and one child inside
Neighbor Herbert Lowery walked outside around 6:30 AM to get
the morning paper.
"The smoke just about enveloped me when I opened the door
there and in a little bit the fire started coming through the roof," said Lowery.
Lowery says he has known Langley for 24-years and is
saddened by the loss.
you just can't believe it you know that something like that would happen," said Lowery.
Birdwell says he does not expect to have the results of the
investigation for at least a few days.
"We're just really now getting in depth of the
investigation," said Birdwell. "We're fixing to go in and start digging out the scene now that
we've done all of our diagramming and so we're working on that right now."
Birdwell also says there has not been a fire fatality in the
county in a while.
"This is the first fire fatality we've had in Nacogdoches or Nacogdoches County in quite some time, actually," said Birdwell.
No other structures were affected by the flames.
Justice of the Peace, David Perkins has ordered an autopsy
on both victims to determine their exact cause of death. Both bodies were taken
to Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches.
