Smith County Sheriff Honored By TABC

One East Texas Sheriff was selected out of hundreds for a special honor recognizing his willingness to help.
Smith County Sheriff J.B Smith was awarded the 2004 Bert Ford Sheriff's Commendation by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
TABC officials said they selected Sheriff Smith because of his department's continued support of TABC agents in regulating 130 private licenses and clubs in the county. Sheriff Smith said he's happy to receive the honor.
"It's very important that sheriff's offices be active in really supporting the TABC," said Smith. "That's what we do and that's why I'm so honored that out of all the 254 sheriffs they picked me this year." Sheriff Smith received a handgun as part of the award and a commemorative plaque. His name will also be added to a plaque at the Sheriff's Association of Texas headquarters in Austin.
