Mississippi Braves pitcher Alex Wood has become the 13th Braves' player to be promoted to the Atlanta Braves from Double-A Mississippi. He'll be in uniform Thursday night when Atlanta hosts the Toronto Blue Jays.
Wood has a 4-2 record in 10 starts this season, and leads the Southern League with a 1.26 ERA. The 22-year-old left-hander has recorded 57 strikeouts and issued 15 walks in 57 innings.
Braves general manager Frank Wren said earlier that Wood would probably not be an immediate option to strengthen Atlanta's injury-depleted bullpen, but apparently changed his mind after the six-man bullpen taxed during Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the Blue Jays.
Left-hander Cole McCurry has been reassigned to Mississippi from Triple-A Gwinett to replace Wood, and will Start Thursday night's game against Montgomery.
