JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson State is returning to NCAA baseball regional play for the first time since 2000.

The Tigers say it's about time!

JSU will head to Baton Rouge on Thursday and prepare for its Friday regional opener against top seed LSU.

The Tigers of LSU are also the fourth seed in the nation. The JSU Tigers know the other Tigers are a pretty tough team.

"LSU is a very good ball club. They are very good at pitching, and they play a lot of good defense," said JSU outfielder Gabriel Babineaux.

"They are a real tough team. They have a nice hitting club. Pitching is real good," said JSU pitcher Jeremy Gray.

Jackson State and LSU will play Friday at 2 p.m.
