Doctors and nurses laid off, programs for adults and children reduced, all are options discussed Tuesday night in an emergency board meeting of the Smith County Health District.
Last week, Smith County Commissioners made public a plan that would drastically cut funding to the district. Last year the county funded $540,000 to the health district. They're proposing that number be cut by nearly half.
More than 50 people showed up to express their concern over the proposed cuts. After discussing different options, the board tabled the issue until a decision is made by the county.
A preliminary budget will be presented September 8th. A final budget won't be approved until the 20th.
