"The Passion Of The Christ" Hits Stores Tuesday

One of the most anticipated movies of the year is about to be available, for your home viewing.
"The Passion of the Christ" broke records at the box office earlier this year. Now, retailers hope the film will set new records in stores.

"The Passion of the Christ" went on sale just after midnight at some stores in East Texas including Hastings in Tyler. Other stores have offered pre- orders for the past few weeks.

"The DVDs we have over 700 and on the video we have almost 200 of them," said Hastings Video Manager Tracey Kearney. Kearney said this will be Hastings' biggest release.

"We didn't even get that many of Lord of the Rings," Kearney said.

Kearney said there have been a high number of pre-sale orders and expects a surge of customers buying the film on Tuesday.

"It's going to be hectic," she said.

It was the same situation across town at the Scroll Christian Bookstore where hundreds have reserved their copies.

"We did pretty well with the pre-sales," said store general manager David Rooker. "We did not push it real hard and we sold over 300 units in about a months span. If we sold 300 pre-sale, we'll sale 200 to 300 afterwards."

"I would expect to sale through a couple of weeks," said Rooker.

Sales assistant Donna Miller said with each pre-order, every customer had something different to say about the film.

"One lady said every time they whipped Jesus, she goes he did it for me. She stood right here and told me and she was almost in tears."
