East Texas helps: How to send aid to Oklahoma tornado survivors

When a natural disaster strikes, East Texans are always among the first to ask, "how can we help?" Here is a list of drop off locations and other ways to assist the residents of Moore, Oklahoma, as they face months of struggle to rebuild some of what was lost in this week's tornado.

Please contact these groups directly to confirm and verify the information we have been given.

From the Salvation Army: "Donors are encouraged to give online at www.SalvationArmyUSA.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769).

You can also text the word "STORM" to 80888 to make a $10 donation through your mobile phone; to confirm your gift, respond with the word "Yes."*

Donations in the form of checks designated to Oklahoma Tornado Relief may also be mailed to:

The Salvation Army, PO Box 2536, Oklahoma City, OK 73102."

From Marvin Methodist in Tyler: "A reliable and fast way to help the people in Oklahoma is tomake a contribution through UMCOR - the United Methodist Committee on Relief.All of your donation will be used for its intended purpose.

From OK Disaster Relief Team - East Texas on Facebook: There is a trailer waiting at Brookshires Whitehouse accepting donations! Also, Bethel Bible is accepting donations as well. They are in need of water, clothes, undergarments, socks, toiletries, baby wipes, diapers, dog and cat food, just your everyday needs! We are leaving Saturday morning for our first trip. Billy Bateman of Carey Lake Ranch (Jacksonville area) has a trailer at Wal-Mart accepting items to carry to Moore, OK. He's there now so Jacksonville join together and lets help him fill that trailer with needed items.. water, baby wipes, gloves, clothes, food or whatever you can. Bobby's Tires is also providing U-Haul's to help carry things.

Sullivan Funeral home in Marshall will be collecting supplies needed for the Oklahoma tornado victims. They will be loading a UHaul to deliver supplies(and have already sent one load). 

Carpet Mart in Tyler: We are coordinating with the Salvation Army to take donations for the tornado victims in Oklahoma. We are located on 110 S across from Trane. If you could list this as a donation site, it would be greatly appreciated. Our physical address is

Avinger Volunteer Fire Department, Tuesday, May 28, 5-8 p.m., located directly behind City Hall (corner of 49/11 & Church st), downtown Avinger.

On Wednesday, May 22, from 3:00 to close, help the people of Moore,Oklahoma and others affected by spring storms and other disasters by dining with your friends and family at Lonestar Restaurants in Tyler and Longview, Texas. Visit any of our brands: Jersey Mikes, Smashburger, Wingstop, TCBY or Rusty Taco and we will donate 15% of all sales to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Owner of Wagner Cadillac in Tyler says his business is a drop off point for donations. Also have dealerships in Henderson and Kilgore: Gabriel Jordan Chevrolet in Henderson and Gabriel Jordan GMC/Buick. Donations focusing on things people can drink.

Angels Among Us of East Texas is accepting all emergency donations batteries, non perishable fooditems toiletries of all kinds, diapers of all sizes sanitizers and monetarydonations. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is collecting items to transport to Moore, OK, on Friday May 24. JaLynne Almond Murray is organizing items. New and like-new items can be dropped off at her house before Friday. Call JaLynne Almond Murray at (903) 571-2677. You may also drop off items at Brown Elementary School in Whitehouse, TX, during the day on Friday, May 24 until 3pm. The following items are needed:
