An East Texas political candidate helped kick off the Republican National Convention in New York this morning.
District 1 congressional candidate, Louie Gohmert, addressed the delegation and threw his support behind President Bush.
"We must secure out borders for our own protection," Gohmert said. "I am pro-life, a U.S. Army veteran, a proud public servant."
Gohmert also emphasized the need to end the death tax to allow Americans to pass on family farms and businesses to their children.
Gohmert is running against Democratic incumbent Max Sandlin.
