201 Cincy Cops, firefighters & city workers get lay off notice

Posted: Updated:
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Hundreds of Cincinnati cops, firefighters and city support workers received notice that they would be the ones to go if the city doesn't find a budget that allows them to stay.

Lay off notices went out to 66 Cincinnati police officers, 71 firefighters and 64 city support workers on Tuesday.

Cincinnati's spokesperson says that they are beginning to implement the city manager's budget because it has the most lay offs. She went on to explain that the city has to give notice in advance of a lay off and they can't add more once the notice goes out.

The city council has until the end of the month to revise this plan and finalize the budget.

FOP President Kathy Herrell tells FOX19 that those layoffs would go into effect on June 9, 2013 if the city isn't able to present and agree on a budget where some, if not all of the lay offs aren't necessary.

We will keep you updated on this story as it develops.
