Organizers of Taste of Cincinnati are teaming up with American Red Cross, Cincinnati Area Chapter to provide an
opportunity for attendees at this year's event to collect financial donations
for those affected by the Oklahoma tornadoes this week. All proceeds will
directly benefit Oklahoma City relief efforts.
The American Red Cross booth will be located on Fountain
Square and will be staffed Saturday through Monday, 12 to 6 p.m. More than
500,000 visitors are expected to attend this weekend's Taste of Cincinnati.
The 35th edition of the Taste of Cincinnati,
presented by Meijer and Christian Moerlein, is scheduled over Memorial Day
weekend: Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, from noon to midnight, and Monday,
May 27, from noon to 9 p.m. Admission to Taste of Cincinnati, the nation's
longest running culinary arts festival, is free and open to the public. Taste
of Cincinnati is produced by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.
The Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Region of the American Red Cross is preparing their Emergency Response Vehicles for deployment to Oklahoma.
"We are prepared to lend our support when the time comes for Cincinnati to send volunteers and supplies," said Trish Smitson Regional CEO of the Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Region. "Our volunteers are routinely deployed for disaster relief support around the country, and it is expected that we will be called upon to aid in this effort as well," said Smitson.
One ERV can supply mobile distribution of more than 3,000 meals. In addition to mobile feeding they are used for bulk distribution of relief supplies.
Our thoughts and concerns go to everyone in Oklahoma following this horrific tornado. People with family near the tornado are encouraged to connect with loved ones to find out they are safe. This can be done through the "I'm Safe" feature of the free Red Cross tornado app. In addition, if you have access to a computer, go to www.redcross.org/safeandwell to list yourself as safe.
If not, you can text loved ones or call a family member and ask them to register you on the site.
To make a donation go to redcross.org, 1-800-REDCROSS or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
