Man drowns after canoe overturns, victim identified

A man drowned over the weekend after the canoe he was in overturned on Caddo Lake.

According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, they received a call about a missing occupant of a canoe on Caddo Lake.

Deputies and Game Wardens were advised that two men had rented a canoe at Johnson's Ranch in Uncertain, TX and were paddling down the river when the canoe apparently turned over, throwing the two occupants into the water.

The surviving man attempted to find the other occupant of the canoe and when he could not, he swam to shore.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Wildrick Lamon Jenkins of Marshall, TX.

Game Wardens from Bowie County assisted the Harrison County Game Wardens with specialized side-scan sonar equipment and located the body of the missing boater in approximately 11 feet of water near where the canoe capsized.

It appears that neither man was wearing the life jackets that were in the canoe.
