Late night fire in Troup labeled 'suspicious' by authorities

Fire departments from Arp, Troup and Whitehouse responded to a house fire that broke at approximately 8:30 P.M. Sunday at 210 W Melton St in Troup.

The Smith County Fire Marshal said the fire is being considered as 'suspicious' by authorities and is currently under investigation.

Authorities said Troup police had previously responded to an altercation between the couple that lives in the house at around 3:40 P.M. Sunday.

Officials said they did not believe anybody was inside the home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

A passing motorcyclist called and reported the fire.
