Habitat workers have Granbury connection

There are around 80 Habitat for Humanity homes in the Granbury area, and a large number were in the path of Wednesday night's tornado. Workers at Longview's Habitat for Humanity are playing a waiting game, trying to find out if people they helped and their own workers in that area were affected in the tornado. They're also waiting to see how they can help

"We got official word this morning through our state affiliate, that 61 homes in the Rancho Brazos neighborhood were Habitat homes. We have not gotten official word on the amount of damage, or injuries or loss of life," says Longview Habitat executive director LuJaun Hollis.

Their own Hood County Habitat branch was hit very hard.

"They also suffered damages, they lost all their tools and trailer," Hollis says.

Making calls and constantly checking web sites and emails, they still remained unsure of damage or any injuries to those they know.

"We don't know how to help yet because we don't have a team on the ground to tell us what's happened. It's just devastating for everybody involved," says operations manager Donna Shupe.

But they're prepared to do whatever is needed to help those affected.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that suffered in this tragedy last night. We have a team, a disaster relief team, from the Habitat International office en route. We've got help on the way; we'll be right behind them," Hollis says.
